RMC Will Evaluate Scholastic LitCamp this Summer

Post 5 of 11

We are excited to announce we are working with Scholastic Education to evaluate LitCamp, a summer literacy and enrichment program for students rising into kindergarten through Grade 9 developed by Scholastic in partnership with LitWorld. Scholastic Education has contracted us to evaluate LitCamp this summer in a district that is implementing LitCamp for two hours a day for students in kindergarten through Grade 6. Our goal is to better understand how students’ knowledge, behaviors, and attitudes toward literacy change during their exposure to the program, how teachers perceive the program and its effects on students, and what the program looks like in practice. In addition, the evaluation study will address three primary questions:

  • How do students’ knowledge, behaviors, and attitudes toward literacy change during their exposure to LitCamp?
  • How do teachers perceive the program and its effects on students?
  • What does LitCamp implementation look like in practice?

The evaluation is a mixed-methods design that involves quantitative data collected through surveys and district achievement data and qualitative data collected through interviews, focus groups, and observations.
