In 2018, five RMC Research employees volunteered at the annual Oregon MESA Day event. Oregon MESA is a pre-college academic program hosted by PSU that equips underrepresented students with science, technology, engineering and math, invention, and 21st-century skills that results in them being better prepared to graduate from high school, enroll in postsecondary education, and compete in a global marketplace. MESA Day is an annual state competition for the MESA Schools Program. This year, student teams developed products to help the elderly (e.g., cost-effective prosthetic arms and prescription dispensers) that they worked on throughout the school year, and then presented their products to judges as part of the competition. Teams also participated in a zombie competition, where they tested out catapults they built as a way to save humans from hordes of zombies. Winners of Oregon MESA Day have the opportunity to compete at the MESA USA Nationals competition.

RMC Research was honored to volunteer at this event for the second year in a row! As last year, it was inspiring to see students, families, and teachers engaged in STEM. The event was well organized and the organizers were clearly passionate about both MESA and the MESA Day event.
