2016 – 2019
The Youth, Education and Safety in Schools (Y.E.S.S.) program was created by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (CO). The programming in local schools is conducted in partnership with the Douglas County School District serving elementary, middle and high school students and their parents. This comprehensive school programming addresses three essential challenges: substance use/abuse, teen relations/personal safety, and Internet/digital safety in schools and for parents. The Y.E.S.S. program also has a “Text-A-Tip” anonymous tip program for local high schools and a community suicide prevention program. RMC Research conducted an evaluation of the Y.E.S.S. school programming using a mixed-methods approach. Data sources included lesson observations, focus groups with student participants, surveys, a review of district and Sheriff’s Office records, and interviews.
