Position Summary
The Portland Oregon office of RMC Research is searching for a Research Associate to join our team to coordinate quantitative and qualitative data collection, analysis, and reporting for multisite evaluations of public health and human services programs. The Research Associate will work with a collaborative team on a variety of projects over time and may contribute to proposal development. The successful candidate will immediately begin work on a five-person team on evaluations of opioid support and recovery programs. Position will start at .80 FTE with potential for higher FTE over time. Great potential exists for significant expansion into multiple areas of research and evaluation.
Responsibilities:
Project Management
- Implements project plans and maintains timelines for multiple projects
- Collaborates with clients and colleagues to ensure efficient completion of tasks
- Maintains high level of communication with Project Officers and subgrantee agencies
- Contribute to quantitative and qualitative research design, analyses, and reporting
- Coordinate and conduct data collection efforts:
- Design and supervise administration of web-based and paper-and-pencil surveys
- Develop interview protocols
- Develop structured observation and focus group protocols
- Produce data collection training manuals
- Facilitate data collection training for subgrantee agencies across Oregon
- Oversee data collection and manage database development
- Guide data entry and supervise data entry staff
- Produce weekly progress reports
Data Collection
- Identifies or designs appropriate instrumentation (e.g., surveys, interview protocols, observation protocols, knowledge assessments) and tools for study recruitment and management
- Collects quantitative data (GPRAs, NOMs), ensuring reliability and validity
- Assists project directors in preparing project submissions and materials for Institutional Review Board review, and follows IRB protocols
Data Management and Analysis
- Coordinate data management and data quality control
- Analyze quantitative data including descriptive and inferential analyses (t-tests, chi‑square, logistic and multiple linear regression, and analysis of variance)
- Interpret findings and contribute to development of reports, briefs, and presentations summarizing results and recommendations
- Manages data in Microsoft Access and cleans data in SPSS
Writing and Presentation
- Assists with writing proposals, research and evaluation plans and reports, literature reviews, and articles for various audiences; develops and delivers presentations
Required Qualifications
- Advanced degree (MPH or similar preferred) with 2-3 years of work experience in research or evaluation methodologies in public health, health, or social sciences
- Experience with organizing, training, and conducting data collection
- Competence in using SPSS for descriptive and inferential analyses
- Excellent writing, listening, and oral presentation skills for a variety of audiences
- Evidence of strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively with other evaluation staff and with clients
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, meet deadlines, take initiative, and coordinate with colleagues at varying organizational levels
- Ability to present legal documentation to work in the U.S.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced skills in database development, data analyses, and data visualization
- Experience with data management and database development using software such as Microsoft Access and SQL, Tableau for dashboard development
- Relevant content-area expertise in the fields of public health, addictions, youth development, and/or children and family services
- A background in Public Health is preferred
Compensation/Benefits
Starting annual salary range is $55,000 to $85,000 commensurate with experience and qualifications.
