RMC Research Corp. conducted an evaluation of the Aurora Gifted and Talented Education (AGATE) program for Aurora Public Schools (APS). The evaluation was used to document and describe AGATE activities, identification practices, services being provided to students in APS, program implementation, and impact of the program on student outcomes. The evaluation was multi-method and included interviews and focus groups with parents, students, and staff along with quantitative analysis of student outcome data and survey results. The quantitative analysis used propensity score matching to assess achievement as a function of participation in AGATE activities. Based on the findings, APS is beginning a new initiative to update and improve their gifted and talented education program.
