Sheryl Turner is a senior research associate with RMC Research Corporation. She currently works with the Southeast Comprehensive Center, providing technical assistance to states in the areas of literacy, school improvement, and sustainability of federal programs. She also supports the Regional Educational Laboratory Southeast, assisting with dissemination of research through bridge events, workshops, and alliances.
Previously, Sheryl was a literacy expert with the Center on Instruction and a technical assistance provider for the National Reading Technical Assistance Center at the Florida Center for Reading Research at Florida State University. Her projects involved disseminating reading research to state and district education leaders and supporting the implementation of effective literacy practices. Sheryl has also co-developed online modules in literacy for the Center on Instruction and the Indiana Department of Education. She has developed protocols for needs assessment and literacy walkthroughs for early learning classrooms, and provided training to state and district personnel on conducting effective school site visits.
Sheryl provides support to states and districts with the transition and implementation of standards, the use of data and assessments to improve instruction, effective instructional strategies for teachers, strategies for turning around the lowest-achieving schools, and efforts to build statewide capacity to implement and sustain programs.
