MIE Teacher Academy:

K-12 Teachers- Join us for the Microsoft Innovative Educator (MIE) Teacher Academy to learn more about Microsoft’s hottest tools and resources to empower your students to achieve more! Bring your own Windows 10 device to this one-day professional learning experience to learn how to maximize your use of Windows and take an immersive deep dive into the new Microsoft Classroom in O365 for Education. You will get the opportunity to explore tools such as OneNote Class Notebooks, Docs.com, Office Forms, Sway, and Office Mix, including how to provide your students with learning experiences beyond the 4 walls in your classroom using Skype in the Classroom and the online Microsoft Educator Community.

MIE Office365 Academy:

This 6-hour Teacher Academy allows participants to take a deep dive into cloud-based tools for the classroom, with a special focus on topics such as file storage, collaboration and communication using Office 365. It will also give educators the opportunity to apply their learning towards the end of each part of the session – reflecting on the topics covered, as well as strategizing on how they can be put to the best use in the classroom or with other educators.

MIE OneNote Academy:

This 6-hour Teacher Academy is designed to help teachers develop the basic skills needed to use OneNote as a productivity and collaborative tool for both themselves and their students. Interactive lessons will be created using the tools in OneNote which will then immediately transfer to classroom practice. Teachers will experience and discover how Professional Learning Communities can be more productive when using OneNote to drive content delivery and creation.

Creative Coding Through Games and Apps:

This workshop prepares teachers to teach the Creative Coding through Games and Apps (CCGA) course curriculum targeted for middle-school through early secondary classroom settings. The workshop provides an accelerated overview experience of the course with emphasis on hands-on activities with the full semester long curriculum. It is assumed workshop participants’ experience with coding and/or teaching coding will vary from none at all to extensive. Objectives include: (1) Introduction to the TouchDevelop platform and exposure to the span of coding concepts addressed in the course, (2) understanding how to use the course materials including teaching strategies, student projects and available resources, (3) recommended approaches to teaching CCGA including flexibility models for course length and online lessons, and (4) use of an actionable roadmap for gaining proficiency in TouchDevelop, developing knowledge about coding concepts, and further study of the course resources. Participant pre-work prior to the workshop is required.

Minecraft in Education:

Education Edition is an open world game that promotes creativity, collaboration, and problem solving in an immersive environment where the only limit is your imagination. During this 1-day, in-person Teacher Academy, you will receive an overview of Minecraft: Education Edition, learn to play the game, and create curriculum and classroom resources you can take back to your classroom and continue your journey.

Digital Storytelling with Sway:

Want to help students develop their most creative and innovative abilities? Introduce them to digital storytelling, regardless of their digital device! Students can use digital tools to create and share their own stories or experiences, or reflect on what they've learned. Join us as we learn about how you can use Sway, a NEW innovative web-based learning tool that can be used on any device your students may have access to in the classroom. Kids love to be creative and share stories about themselves...digital storytelling is the perfect way to let them do it!

Flip Your Classroom with Office Mix:

Flip your classroom quickly and easily with Office Mix! With Office Mix, you can create digital lessons in PowerPoint with simulations, quizzes, discussions, and more. Quickly share your Office Mix with your students for them view on any device and easily differentiate instruction by using Mix analytics. Or mix it up- have students create Mixes for authentic assessment.

Team Members



Josh D'Ambrosio is a part of the Innovations in Learning team at RMC Research. He has extensive experience in conducting needs analyses and educational technology implementation. Josh is a Microsoft Certified Educator and is also certified in the Creative Coding Through Games and Apps (CCGA) curriculum as well as Minecraft in Education. He has provided multiple trainings around the use of Microsoft tools in the classroom, including Sway and Office Mix. He is also co-facilitating a statewide professional development online course for teachers in Massachusetts titled 'How to develop and facilitate your own online course.' Josh received his degree in Urban Studies with a focus on education from Hunter College in New York after transferring from Virginia Tech. He has also taken extensive coursework in geographic Information Systems and Design from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn.

Azzerraya Love has extensive experience with graphic design and programming languages such as JavaScript, CSS and HTML. Azzerraya is a certified Microsoft Innovative Educator (MIE) and Creative Coding through Games and App (CCGA) trainer. She has a passion for bringing creative technology integration into the classroom. Azzerraya is also the Internship coordinator for the organization and has a lot of experience working with teachers and students. Azzerraya received her undergraduate degree in Political Science from New York University.

Anushka Shirali, Sr. Research Associate works to bring technology and education together in meaningful ways. She has always focused on identifying strategies that meet the needs of various stakeholder groups whether they are early learners or adult practitioners. She is the Regional Innovations in Learning Team Lead as part of The Northeast Comprehensive Center (NCC), a federally funded technical assistance center and works primarily in Massachusetts, New York and Rhode Island. Anushka is a graduate of the Harvard Graduate School of Education with an ED.M in Technology and Innovation in Education. She has also previously worked on the ScratchEd project at the MIT Media Lab. She completed her undergraduate studies in India and has several years of work experience in the area of content development for educational products.
